Western Air Defense Exercise
On August 12th and August 13th, Western Air Defense Sector, McChord Air Force Base will conduct a live simulated exercise between the hours of 0600 and 1200.
The exercise will involve a civilian aircraft that unintentionally strays into Canadian airspace and enters restricted airspace TFR. Canadian military aircraft will be dispatched to intercept the aircraft, and the aircraft will be escorted to William R. Fairchild International Airport and forced to land.
The purpose of this exercise is to refine and coordinate efforts between the US and Canada in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Canadian Military aircraft may be seen circling the Airport at high altitude as part of this exercise. The exercise will conclude upon the landing of the civilian aircraft.
