Port of Port Angeles to Sell Property
June 12, 2008
The Port of Port Angeles Commissioners held a Special Meeting this morning to review a proposal for the purchase of 113 acres of Port property near the airport. This property has sometimes been referred to as the Dry Creek Property and is formally named the South Industrial Park Property in the Port’s Comprehensive Plan. A group of local investors has offered to buy the land for $1,050,000. The intended use is future development. As an interim use, they are planning to develop, operate and promote sprint boat racing on a portion of the property, and subject to approval by the City of Port Angeles. No change in zoning is anticipated.
This property was previously declared surplus by the Port in 2004 to accommodate a prospective sale to Port Angeles Hardwoods. That transaction was never finalized.
Port Commission President John Calhoun commented, “The proceeds from the sale will help the Port to support other important strategic objectives. Selling now to experienced local private sector developers will make a meaningful contribution to community economic development and return this property to the tax rolls.” The Port Commission voted unanimously to approve the sale.
